California correspondence, 1849-1891.

The letters by George to his father Lisbon Applegate and his brothers Lewis and James describe the voyage to California by way of Panama in 1849, events and life in the mines and California, family affairs, and financial problems of Lisbon. Two of the letters are from Lisbon to George. Lisbon (brother of Jesse Applegate) and his son John accompanied George to California and Lisbon later returned home.
